As of December 17, Comcast will deliver PCN digitally on channel 100 or 110 of its Digital Starter lineup.
The channel change does not affect Comcast customers in other parts of Pennsylvania.
Customers in traditional Comcast areas in western Pennsylvania who now view PCN on channel 48 will see PCN on channel 100 starting December 17. In the City of Pittsburgh, PCN will remain on channel 48, but a digital set-top box will be needed effective January 26. For those in the former Adelphia communities of Adams, Bethel Park, Blairsville, Monroeville, New Castle, Plum, Punxsutawney and Reynoldsville, PCN will be found on channel 110.
"This is part of our commitment to efficiently manage our network to provide customers with more of what they want – more HD programming, faster internet speeds and more On Demand choices," said Linda Hossinger, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Three Rivers Region. "Most of our customers are already digital subscribers and will be unaffected, but those Standard Cable customers who would like to watch PCN’s unique programming in digital quality video and audio can receive a free set-top converter box by calling us at 1-800-COMCAST."
According to Comcast, the free converter box will take those standard cable viewers to the digital starter level service for a free three month period. The box allows for the viewers to watch PCN, ON DEMAND as well as 20-30 other channels depending on where they live.
For almost five years, PCN has been contributing content to Comcast’s local On Demand service for digital cable subscribers, allowing them to watch the PIAA state football championships, PCN Tours, PA Books, PCN Profiles and Weather World whenever they want by selecting the “Your Town” and “PCN” folders.
